Description:
Fantom is a wonderful dog! He is mostly housetrained, likes everyone, and loves to take walks. He plays go get the toy, though he doesn't always bring it back. He likes to play with other dogs. He is crate trained, and goes outside on a "tie out" for potty breaks.
UPDATE: May 14, 2010. Fantom is back at his foster home recuperating from the treatment. This will take a month; he needs to be inactive so the heartworms that are being killed do not travel to his lungs. This is almost as hard on him as the actual treatment. The first week in June he will be ready for his neuter surgery, then after his stitches come out he will be ready for his new home. We hope to test him, after his surgery, to see if he is able to escape a wood privacy fenced yard. The new home will need a fenced yard like this if he cannot escape it; this will apply for even a home in the country. Huskies just feel the need to run and run, so he should not be given the opportunity to do that.
His adoption fee is $200. We did get donations toward his medical care, so we have lowered the fee.
Fantom was left at Animal Control because his owner would have had to pay fines for him being picked up again. He is an "escape artist", and we believe that is why no one took him home. He is a good dog, friendly and seems to be good with the little dogs in his foster home. We will be evaluating him further to see how he is with children. Update: he is good with kids, though any small child needs to be supervised with a dog this size.
We took him to the vet and found out he is heartworm positive. He will have the treatment and will be neutered after that. He had his rabies and other vaccinations, and will start on his Interceptor (heartworm preventative) when he is cleared from the treatment. After that he MUST stay on monthly heartworm preventative. He also will be neutered after the treatment is done. He won't be available for adoption until sometime in May. We will take applications on him, but will need to wait until the treatment is over before we consider the applications.
